A Rose by Any Other Name...
The House of Shaun Leane is proud to relaunch the Rose Thorn Collection, with new provocative, daring & refined pieces.
Rose Thorn Statement Hoop Earrings
The rose with its thorny stems embodies the dangerous beauty of nature, the dichotomy of strength and fragility, of attraction and protection. The Rose Thorn collection is a recreation of the sharp little rose thorns that were originally created for Lee McQueen, as thorns for the catwalk models to wear on their faces. The collection reworks the thorns into sharp, small ear studs, or thorn-laden stems are wound into rings and open bangles or into a statement hoop earring, lyrical yet armour-like, leaving the fragrant rose, just out of sight, to the imagination.

There is no doubt that Shaun Leane is a romantic at heart, in the broadest sense of the word, entranced from a young age by storytelling, history, adventure, Greek mythology and the ancient Egyptians. And it is the romance of the natural world, he explains, that provides him with never-ending “perfect subject matter”. A lifelong collector of natural objects (fossils, shells, minerals…) he is enthralled by the whole drama of nature, its unstoppable force and compelling contradictions of tenderness and brutality, strength and fragility, allure and menace, light and dark. Most of all, he has come to appreciate the endless cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

"The strength and endurance of metal have been qualities for which I have searched within myself. In nature, as in life, violent and beautiful forces dance together and there is a delicate balance to be struck between ferocity and vulnerability."

Metallic, illustrious and precious, in sterling silver and gold vermeil, Rose Thorn's metal vines metamorphose into chokers wrapped around the neck; hooped earrings become a powerful statement of magical fantasy, replicating organic shapes found in nature; larger, more intricate rings simulate a paradise garden, wrapping around the finger like ivy in a snowy metallic frost.
“The tactility of these pieces - dare to prick your finger on the thorns - expands the expression of fleeting childish existence to make it a modern-day armour for those who wear jewellery with a youthful abundance. ”
